At Cargill’s Emporia Pet Products plant, we have been using the Security Floor treatment for about a month. During this time we have seen a decrease in both Enterobacteriaceae and Salmonella in the environment. With our plant being an older facility the set-up is challenging and hence we have a lot of foot traffic and forklift traffic throughout the facility. By using the Security floor treatment in the doorways of high traffic areas, this has greatly aided in the cross contamination via foot traffic and forklift traffic in our facility. The Security Floor treatment is easy to use, it does not scatter, it works effectively and it is easy to dispense and clean up. This is a great product.

We love the security floor treatment! It has cut down dramatically on our micro hits on the floor areas. We are now expanding and using in a few more doorways.

  I was wondering if you have a dryer environment. Our environment is not toally dry but dry enough to carry the floor treatment on our shoes. The floor treatment is causing problems with the wax in our breakrooms breaking doen with water in a very short time. have you noticed this at all?

    Hi Kim, We have had good results using four coats of Ultra Kote in our trials. Using five coats on the floor provides a tough, rugged shine to the floor that has proven resistant to bleach and other harsh chemicals. The floor wax is not impervious to bleach and other oxidizers but is chemically resistant.
    
    Alternatively, you can epoxy coat the floor. Companies that specialize in epoxy coatings have suggested that you have the coating professionally installed. Fox Valley Cleaners (http://www.foxvalleycleaners.com/epoxy-flooring.html) are in Appleton and apply epoxy floor coatings. Their website looks like they market to residential customers, but I expect they would love to quote any size job for McCain Foods. Epoxy Floors Wisconsin (http://epoxyfloorswi.com/) also does this type of work in Appleton. I just talked to Epoxy Floors Wisconsin and the conversation quickly got to the point where they need to talk to you (I did not mention your company name).

I have used alkali peroxide when working on several food safety initatives with my clients. It is an excellent tool for treating floors and foot or wheel traffic, and it is definitely helps in controlling the environment. When alkali peroxide is used on floors or around drains, it reduces any tracking effects and helps isolate the harborages, niches and other sources of contamination. One of my clients says, ‘It knocks down the “noise” in environmental monitoring so that the true sources can be identified.’ Alkali peroxide is an investigative tool as well as a floor treatment option. And it is a great floor treatment option because it allows the environment to dry out to some extent, while killing microorganisms when activated and cleaning surfaces when washed away.
